Come Celebrate Spring in the Sierra!
Wednesday April 4 - Sunday April 9

The community of San Javier in conjunction with Living Roots, will offer several exciting  tours as well as a market with hand-made artisan crafts, food, and seasonal produce. 

All events are happening every day (times listed below).
You can find the Living Roots booth in downtown San Javier.

The schedule of events is a follows:

Artisan & Produce Market
10 am - 5 pm, Downtown San Javier

Medicinal Plant Interpretative Walk
11 am  |  meet @ Living Roots booth
Learn about local uses of native flora and enjoy a sample tea in the shade upon return.  Scenic views of the Mission throughout the walk.    $100 pesos per person
 Mule Rides
Canyon and Rock Art Ride |  9:30 am-3pm 
Meet @ Living Roots Booth, drive to Rancho El Pasito

A moderate ride (4-5 hrs) through canyon country to a rock art site in the higher sierra with guide Che Martinez.  This is an opportunity to explore a seldom traveled part of the sierra.
$360 pesos per person, or $400 with lunch included

Scenic Desert Afternoon Ride  |  2:30 pm - 5 pm
Meet @ at Living Roots booth, and drive to Rancho Nuevo (can leave directly from here to Loreto)

Easy ride at base of the mountains between San Javier and Loreto with longtime cowboy, Bule from Rancho Nuevo. A great opportunity to experience the mountain landscape after spending the day in San Javier.  $240 pesos a person


* For all above activities we recommend bringing at least two liters of water, a sun hat, long pants and closed toed shoes.  
Semana Santa en San Javier
Ven a celebrar primavera en La Sierra! 

Desde el miércoles 4 de abril hasta el domingo 9 de abril, La comunidad de San Javier en conjunto con Raíces Vivas ofrecerá varios tours además del mercado con artesanías hechas a mano, comida y productos de temporada.

El calendario de los eventos se describe a continuación:

Mercado de Artesanías Y Productos
10 am – 5 pm, Centro de San Javier

Paseo Interpretativo de Plantas Medicinales con Vista Escénica de La Misión
11 am  (encuéntranos en el puesto de Raíces Vivas en San Javier)

Aprende acerca de los usos locales de la flora nativa y disfruta una muestra de te en la sombra cuando regreses.

$100 pesos por persona.

Cabalgata en Mula:
Cabalgata en el cañón y pinturas rupestres:
9:30 am – 3 pm

Encuéntranos en San Javier en el puesto de Raíces Vivas y maneja hasta el “Rancho  El Pasito”

Un cabalgata moderada (4-5 hrs) a través del cañón hasta las pinturas rupestres en lo mas alto de la sierra con el guía Che Martínez. Esta es una oportunidad para explorar una parte poco conocida de la sierra.

$360 por persona o $400 con lunch incluido

Cabalgata vespertina  con vista escénica al desierto:
2:30 pm – 5 pm

Encuéntranos en San Javier en el puesto de Raíces Vivas  y maneja hasta el “Rancho Nuevo “(Puedes partir directamente desde aquí hasta Loreto)

Una cabalgata fácil hacia la base de las montañas entre San Javier y Loreto con un vaquero guiando todo el tiempo, Bule de Rancho Nuevo. Una gran oportunidad para disfrutar el paisaje de las montañas después de pasar el día en San Javier.

$240 por persona


*Para todas las actividades anteriormente descritas recomendamos traer por lo menos dos litros de agua, una gorra para el sol, pantalones largos, y calzado cerrado para los pies.

Semana Santa (Easter Week) in San Javier – Living Roots will have a booth for regional craft and produce as well as various activities and demonstrations of traditional skills.

May 11 
San Javier’s Birthday – Morning Cabalgata (traditional horse procession) ending in  "downtown" San Javier.

Regional Market & Festival of Sierra Culture
April 16-24, 2011

Come celebrate Semana Santa in San Javier with a showcase of regional foods. handmade artisan crafts, and demonstrations of traditional skills from master artisans. Join Living Roots, master artisans, and other community representatives for a week-long, fun-filled festival. This event is free and open to the public.

Olive Oil production & palm weaving demonstrations

Friday, April 22
Riata (lariat) braiding, rawhide cot weaving, & weaving of petates (bamboo-like panels)

Saturday, April 23
Historic Transportation System  & Traditional Green Coffee Roasting 

Sunday, April 24
Preparation of regional sweets

Directions to San Javier
From Loreto, take Highway 1 south. Just south of the airport is a big sign for the turn-off to San Javier on the rightt. The road is paved about 1/3 of the way to San Javier. One way is approximately 45 minutes from Loreto.
