Jim moved to Loreto two years ago from Durango Colorado. He has over 30 years of government service as an educator, strategist, policymaker and implementer of United States Foreign Policy. He has taught courses in history, political science, public policy, strategy, leadership and ethics at Fort Lewis College, the University of Colorado at Denver, and the National War College in Washington DC. He has extensive experience developing all the elements of strategic planning, particularly in terms of global security and education as they relate to emerging challenges such as climate change, natural resource depletion, alternative energy requirements and leveraging technological innovation. He was a contributor to Colorado newspapers, High Country News, and the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs. He was a member of the John Kerry foreign policy task force during the 2004 presidential campaign. He was also state co-coordinator for Colorado Veterans for Kerry and has developed strategies for numerous political campaigns. He is a graduate of the Air Force Academy, Fort Lewis College, and has Master of Arts degrees in Latin American history from Northern Arizona University and in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College.
Violeta is a senior consultant specializing in participatory and social development, socio-economic policy analysis, local leadership training and capacity building, gender analysis, co-operatives and micro-enterprises, curriculum development, and non-formal education programs. Violeta has over twenty years of international development administration experience, and has been professionally involved in development efforts in Argentina, Armenia, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Rwanda, Sri Lanks, Trinidad and Tobago, U.S., and Canada.
